TSI Inc. currently has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Bridge Engineering Technician. At TSI Inc., you will find a place where you will have many opportunities to learn and develop while working on engaging projects.
Come join our team specializing in Transportation engineering structures as an Intermediate Bridge Engineering Technician. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and expertise in drafting and structural design with all team members.
The Bridge Engineering technicians will provide technical support and services to engineers and other technicians from different related disciplines and may participate in field and OSIM inspections.
We offer a flexible hybrid work arrangement that allows you to work from home.

Primary Responsibilities

• Actively participate in developing drawings for projects related to the new construction and rehabilitation of bridges, culverts and other transportation engineering structures by working with a team of technicians, drafters, and engineers.
• Ensure interdepartmental coordination with the CAD teams and in compliance with the quality assurance system.
• Participate in field inspection of structures.
• Participate in the preparation of studies and technical reports.
• Participate in the training and mentoring of junior employees.
• Develop conventional and computer-assisted (CAD) engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts and sketches.
• Prepare construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports.
• Conduct, supervise, monitor, and inspect construction projects.
• Perform other technical functions in support of civil engineering activities.
• Assist Project Managers in all aspects of project delivery.
• Process field data and survey information
• Formulate preliminary and detailed designs and drawings for various engineering projects, such as highways, bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other highway structures.
• Ensure plans and deliverables are compliant with relevant standards and drafting requirements.
• Perform QC/QA on final deliverables.
• Degree in Civil Engineering, a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related program.
• Minimum of 5 years experience working in a Bridge Engineering related CAD role for replacement and rehabilitation projects.
• Familiar with details of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls in Ontario.
• Proficient in using design software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microstation. Utilizes AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microstation to prepare difficult and complex layouts and design drawings utilizing theoretical and practical design knowledge.
• Performs complex drafting tasks efficiently and accurately independently and as a team.
• Interprets and ensures conformance to applicable standards, codes, and company policies and procedures.
• Actively participate in the design and provide input to the design team throughout the design process;
• Reviewing drawings to ensure compliance with Client drafting standards;
• Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary project team;
• Willing to mentor and train other junior staff.
• Actively work at improving drafting skills;
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines;
• Able to work well as part of a team or on an individual basis;
• Able to pay strong attention to detail;
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook);
• Possess strong organizational, technical, Time management, leadership, communication, and multi-tasking skills;
• Highly motivated with a results-oriented focus; and
• Experience with MTO Manual details such as Structural Manual is an asset.
